Revolutions Pro Shop: Tip of the Month for Aug/Sept 2005
Getting back into the swing!
It’s been a long summer and now it’s time to start a new season of bowling. What can you do to get off to a good start? Well that’s what we are here to help you with this month. Here are some tips on what you can do to ease back into the swing and to get off to a good start!
TIP 1: CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT Youth bowlers are still growing and that makes it even tougher to keep a good fit for long but even adults go through changes that can affect the way a ball fits. If you use finger inserts, have them checked and if needed change them. If you have used tape in your thumbhole, that too should be changed to avoid problems. Have you ever had your ball resurfaced? You can have the shell of your ball freshened up in the pro shop with either a sanding or just a coat of polish. You can also purchase do-it-yourself ball cleaner to keep the surface of your ball clean and oil free. Your shoes are an important part of your equipment too, check the laces and make sure the bottoms are clean also. And if your ball isn’t performing any longer it might be time for a new one! If you decide that a new ball is what you want remember to bring your old one with you when you visit the pro shop!
TIP 2: ‘STRETCH’ YOUR PRACTICE TIME It’s a good idea to come in and throw a couple of practice games before your league starts. Remember to stretch your legs, back, arms and wrists before you begin to throw the ball. You can also get more out of your practice time by NOT keeping score. That will allow you to throw some shots at the corner pins on the first ball, which gives you better value for your money. You should also take a practice slide without your ball before you begin. This will allow you to get a feel for the approaches and is also a good way to ‘warm up’ your legs before you begin to bowl.
TIP 3: COME OUT AND GET SOME FREE INSTRUCTION We are offering free instruction during open bowling times with your purchase of open bowling games. These times will be clearly posted at the front desk. We can offer help to both beginners and advanced players so come out and see how we can improve your game and help you have more fun bowling!
